Arthur Stark, who was named Senior Vice President-Merchandising in January, 1999, has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer. The Marketing function now reports to Mr. Stark in his new capacity.
Promoted to Vice President were: Todd Johnson, Vice President-General Merchandise Manager, Hardgoods; Jane Gilmartin, Vice President-General Merchandise Manager, Softgoods; and Richard McMahon, Vice President and Chief Information Officer.
Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has opened 26 new superstores, and currently operates 212 stores in 36 states. The Company plans to open at least 24 additional superstores, in both new and existing markets, during the remainder of the current fiscal year which ends on February 26, 2000, and expects to be operating at least 236 stores in 39 states by year end. States to be entered for the first time during the remainder of the fiscal 1999 are Iowa, Louisiana, and Rhode Island.
